Our organization exists for the sole purpose of sharing an enjoyment
and enthusiasm for water gardening and ornamental fish keeping.
Originally established as the Gulf Coast Pond Society in 1994, we have now
become Mississippi Gulf Coast Koi and Water Gardens, in order to
distinguish our specific interests and location in the USA. For every year
except 2006, there has been a Pond Tour to showcase our interests and to
encourage others to do the same.
We love to educate others on the art and passion of pond building and
maintenance, fish care and knowledge of various types of fish suitable
for ponds, and pond plants. Members get to meet other enthusiasts and
share plants, fish and knowledge learned from the trial and error of
water gardening.
For years we tried to maintain the pond at the Gulfport Library as a
public service. Hurricane Katrina ended that project. We built a pond
for the sensory garden at the Toy Library at the Gulf Coast Campus of
the University of Southern Mississippi.
Our meetings have become "dinner socials" so working people can come
from work and not have to worry about getting home, getting supper, and
getting to the meeting. This arrangement has worked well for the past
year and will be continued as members wish.
